Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist who is known for her self-portraits and one of a kind style. She painted 143 paintings out of which 55 were self-portraits. She was ahead of her time. She refused to hide her physical imperfections. She painted herself with busy eyebrows and facial hair.

I was attracted to this photo of hers and decided to convert it into a quilting design. It is difficult to show the smile in stitches but this portrait will remind me of her smile.

She wore long skirts and embroidered blouses to represent her Mexican ethnicity. She wore her long black hair with a center part and braid it into a tight bun which was unfashionable at that time. She often accessorized here hair with flowers and headpieces. She also painted them in her paintings to symbolize fertility although she was not able to have children.
